tyler knapp’s musical journey began in suburban indianapolis where he grew up and fell in love with hip hop. his influences included a dad who listened to classic rock and a mom who loved soul/r&b. his older brother exposed him to ALL elements of music.

tyler discovered hip hop in junior high when he first heard artists like eric b and rakim, run dmc, bdp, etc . . . his life was changed forever. as a freshman in high school, he got some turntables. in college, he began making beats.

in the early 90s, fate brought tyler and russell johnson together. russ wrote rhymes, tyler made beats, the mudkids were created. Since then, tyler and russ have taken their signature sound to a new level in hip hop. with 5 albums and national acclaim from USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Rap Pages, Billboard, Indianapolis Star, NUVO Newsweekly, Indianapolis Monthly (to name a few . . .), the mudkids have solidified their place in music history.

today, tyler is continuing the musical journey with his long overdue “instrumental projects”. in late 2010, tyler dropped an album called “FOR THE USUAL and UNUSUAL”. check out the recent projects page to see his other recent works.
